Sport review
Para swimming was one of the first sports that joined the Paralympic program at the Rome 1960 Paralympic Games. After that, it made its debut at the Mexico City 1999 Parapan American Games.
This is a sport adapted for people with a physical, visual or intellectual impairment. It includes starting platforms inside or outside of the water, or the use of signals that indicate the end of the lane. No prostheses are permitted in the pool for the breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke and freestyle events.
