From Lima, the president of ANPPERÚ, Lucha Villar, congratulated the Peruvian Para athlete for his success. “Rosbil is running very well. Let’s hope that by the end of the process he can be in Tokyo. For now, we hope he can recover, rest and be ready in a week to run the 5000 meters,” she said. During his second appearance in this competition, Guillén will compete in the 5000-meter race next Thursday 14, starting at 01:00 (Peruvian time).

CLOSE TO 6000 VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATE IN LIMA 2019 PARAPAN AMERICAN GAMES

    Descripción

The contribution of the volunteers was critical for the success of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, thanks to teamwork and their contribution, which Panam Sports (Pan American Sports Organization) recognized. This success was then replicated at the Parapan American Games.

The head of the Lima 2019 Volunteer Program, Ángela Morales, revealed that 5900 volunteers, distributed throughout several sports venues and with various operational roles, participated in the Parapan American Games, which ended on September 1.

She also said that the number of volunteers for these Games has been quite motivating and has left a strong volunteer program for Peru as a legacy, which must be taken on by an institution, so that this model can be repeated in future international events.

Morales stated that a platform was implemented to distribute types of certificates online: one for the training volunteers received and another for their participation in the Games. Each volunteer will obtain two certificates for having been a part of the successful Lima 2019 Volunteer Program.

PAN AMERICAN GAMES VOLUNTEERS IN NUMBERS

The head of the Lima 2019 Volunteer Program also highlighted that the Organizing Committee successfully closed the first stage of the Pan American Games. “We are delighted with the results; everyone did their part and actively participated, which should be a source of pride for all Peruvians,” she said.

She specified that 11,900 volunteers participated in the Pan American Games, 85% of which were young people between the ages of 18 and 25; also, 60% of the total number of volunteers were women. All of this is part of the contribution made by the Lima 2019 Volunteer Program for Peru.

Morales also stated that the 630 underage volunteers, between 16 and 17 years of age, also did an outstanding job. There were 480 volunteers who came from different parts of the world, such as Germany, the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, among other countries.

Another important group of volunteers were senior citizens, who were approximately 600. They gave their time and kind disposition to support these Games.

It should be noted that the Lima 2019 volunteers were trained prior to carrying out their tasks. They worked in marketing, spectator services and the press. They all had the chance to select a venue to volunteer at and, in exchange for their work, they received transportation, food and accident insurance.

THE FASTEST ATHLETE IN THE AMERICAS WITH BETTER TIMES IN LIMA 2019

    Descripción

He used to love futsal when he was a teenager and started practicing sports. His speed called the attention of his coach who encouraged him to practice athletics. Petrúcio Ferreira is today the fastest Para athlete in the Americas and has the world record in 100 and 200 m T47.

The last day of Para athletics in Lima 2019, Petrúcio not only picked up the gold medal in 100 m and broke twice his own Parapan American record, he also won his first gold medal in 400 m, which is not his forte but shows that he is a well-rounded Para athlete.

“I leave quite happy with the two gold medals and after improving my own Parapan American record”. I knew it was going to be hard to improve my marks since I am just in the base period for the Dubai World Championship in November. This was a good training for improving my world record” he told Lima 2019.

That accident to his left arm at his house in Paraiba (northeast of Brazil) left him with a lesson. Two years after the accident he was still strong. Today he is stronger since he is able to achieve great things for his country.

“This happened to me as a child. My father’s mistake did not break me. I grew up adapting to my impairment and today I am happy. I even think that if I had my left arm, I would not be this fortunate. I even get to show the world nothing is impossible”, the world champion added.

Petrúcio added a fourth Parapan American title to his list of two gold medals in 100 and 200 m in the London 2017 World Championship and a Paralympic gold medal in 100 m in Rio 2016. His next goal is to have better the times of the best two Para athletes in the world for T11 and T12. He aims at great things.

    Descripción

Rosbil “The Wonder” Guillén never imagined being recognized in such short time. He has been roughly for a year in Para athletics and he has already won a gold medal at the Parapan American Games, the greatest competition in the Americas.

But it is not the only thing the Para athlete born in Huaytará, Huancavelica, has achieved. Thanks to his victory in Lima 2019, he will have the chance to compete against the best in the world at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and at the Dubai 2019 World Para Athletics Championships. Something he never imagined when the year began, and he decided to fully dedicate himself to high level competition.

The name “Rosbil Guillén is new in Para sports. He could not have guessed, two years ago, that he would be on the spotlight. He never though getting such important awards so fast, because he has just started training seriously since January last year, when he decided to travel to Huancayo and work along with Sunil Herrera, who was training Efraín Sotacuro. Rosbil Guillén had his revenge and won the first gold medal for Peru.

In few months they noticed his aptitude and earn his right to participate in the Parapan American Games where he surprised everyone after winning the 1500 m T11 competition (Para athletes running with visual impairment and with guides) in Lima 2019. He won the first gold medal for Peru, and that brought the best of news for the runner from Huancavelica, who also lived in Ica.

Thanks to the times he made in the competition, The National Paralympic Association of Peru, chaired by Lucha Villar, informed him that his next challenges would be the Dubai World Para Athletics Championships, to be held next November and that he will be competing in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, the most important sport event of the world. “Thank God they told us we will be participating in the Dubai World Championships and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. I’m going to compete in the 1500 m and 500 m, with my guide Rio Ferdinand Cerceda, but this time, we will hold each other until the end,” said the Peruvian Para athlete.

Rosbil Guillén is very happy for winning gold so soon. “I’m very happy, and I was even more when they told me I won gold in the 1500 m. I was waiting for this a year ago. I dreamed about winning a medal and it happen. We work really hard to recover the medal we lost in the 5000 m, even I don’t think of this as a revenge. Entering Para sports was a tough call, I didn’t imagine myself doing this, two years ago. It wasn’t my goal, but I began to make better times and getting a good level,” said the Para athlete.

“All these victories are thanks to my guides (he runs with Carlos Gálvez and Rio Ferdinand Cerceda, with whom he won the 5000 m and 1500 m events.) I like Para athletics and that’s why I decided to train (he also played football-5-a-side.) I’m really proud to represent my country and I’m really happy for winning a medal. I’m thankful to God and I’m happy for being recognized by my countrymen. Thanks to all who supported me. Thanks to Gladys Tejeda, Efraín Sotacuro, Luis Sandoval for their advice, they had always encouraged me to be where I am now,” said Rosbil Guillén.

Thanks to Rosbil Guillén, Peru won a gold medal again at Parapan American Games. Twelve years ago. Jimmy Eulert had won three gold medals in 50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle and 50 m backstroke Para swimming events in Rio 2007.
