LIMA 2019 GOLD-MEDAL WINNER OBTAINS QUALIFYING MARK FOR TOKYO 2020
Rosbil Guillén, who won the gold medal in the 1500 meters at the Parapan American Games, obtained a good mark in this distance and qualified for the Paralympic Games.
During his first performance at the Dubai 2019 World Para Athletics Championships, Rosbil Guillén (alongside his guide, Ferdinand Cereceda) obtained a qualifying mark for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a time of 4m19s0c in the second semifinal of the 1500-meter T11 race (Para athletes with visual impairment who run with guides).
With this mark, the prominent Para athlete placed fifth in the race, beat his personal record (4m23s88cs at Lima 2019) and surpassed—by 13 centiseconds—the established minimum mark to make it onto the ranking of Para athletes who will split the tickets for the Paralympics.
Now, the Lima 2019 Games gold-medal winner in 1500 meters must wait for his final ranking to confirm his quota for next year’s Paralympic Games.
From Lima, the president of ANPPERÚ, Lucha Villar, congratulated the Peruvian Para athlete for his success. “Rosbil is running very well. Let’s hope that by the end of the process he can be in Tokyo. For now, we hope he can recover, rest and be ready in a week to run the 5000 meters,” she said. During his second appearance in this competition, Guillén will compete in the 5000-meter race next Thursday 14, starting at 01:00 (Peruvian time).
