Sport review
It was established as a Para sport in Japan in 1882 from the martial art of jujitsu. It was included in the Parapan American program for the first time in Rio 2007. It emphasizes balance, strength, flexibility and coordination.
It was adapted for athletes with a visual impairment. The difference between conventional and adapted judo is the contact with their opponent before the start of the match. During the bout, scores are awarded for the moves performed with the objective of throwing or taking down an opponent to the ground.
