The appointment to begin the route of the Flame that lights us all in Trujillo took place in the Archaeological Complex of Chan Chan. The best-known swimmer, Jessica Cattáneo, lived her first Torch Relay experience accompanied by artistic performances, such as the traditional marinera, which added some much-needed color to the afternoon.
Important personalities, such as the ex-Miss World, Maju Mantilla; the ex-world boxing champion, Linda Lecca; the chef Christian Bravo; and the sports commentator, Jorge “Coqui” Gonzalez, were part of the 33 torchbearers, who toured the 7 km between the Archaeological Complex and the Plaza de Armas of Trujillo, where a great stage was waiting with the cauldron to ignite the end of the celebration.
A moment that made the public burst into applause was the lighting of the Torch in the hands of Tiffani Gómez, a young trans woman, who represented the LGBT community in this event that involves all Peruvians. “The flame of the Games symbolizes union. We want a Peru without discrimination,” stated Tiffani, after running 200 meters with the Torch and the LGBT flag on her back.
