Sport review

In this event, swimmers have to finish a 10-kilometer course freestyle. The competition will be held in a lagoon in Lima 2019. Swimmers will have to complete eight laps of the circuit to complete the official distance. The United States leads the medal table with four gold medals. The competition will be held at Laguna Bujama, located south of Lima.

Buoy: A float anchored that denotes the course the swimmers must follow.
Feeding station: A boat or structure used by coaches to provide athletes with water.
Lead boat (escort boat): A boat that leads the lead pack of swimmers on a race course.
Sighting: A technique used by competitors where they lift their eyes out of the water as they swim in order to navigate.

History

This is a sport that challenges the athletes’ body and mind. It’s a fight against the sea and the distance. It has been part of the Pan American Games sports program since the 15th edition in Rio de Janeiro 2007.
