PERUVIAN DELEGATION MOVES TO PARAPAN AMERICAN VILLAGE

A large part of the 139 Para athletes, who will represent us in Lima 2019, are already in the Parapan American Village, and look forward to the start of the Games.

In a cool group, there are always jokes and good humor. Even more so on the day the Peruvian delegation had been waiting for so long, to represent us at the Parapan American Games. The faces of these wonderful athletes reflected a unique excitement to step on the Parapan American Village, a joy that not event the cold morning in Lima could appease.

Feeling part of the most important multidisciplinary event of the continent is a feeling that will forever remain in the hearts of these life champions. They will compete against the most awarded Para athletes of the Americas, but nothing and no one will prevent them from experiencing the dream of gathering thousands of Peruvians to cheer together for 11 days.

“The moment we have been waiting for has finally arrived. Entering the Parapan American Village makes us feel the spirit of the Games, and my teammates and I are happy to be experiencing this incredible event in our country. I will brand my room since day one,” joked the Para swimmer ‘Juancito’ León, who will compete since August 25 at the VIDENA Aquatic Center.

Friends and family of several Para athletes came to the VIDENA to say goodbye to them on their trip to the Village. The Para athlete, Carlos Felipa, and the Para cyclist, Israel Hilario, received the attendees’ affection while entering the precinct. “It feels great to have people looking out for us. We are a joyful group, and we will give our best for our country,” said both.

Peru is one of the first delegations to move into the Parapan American Village. Part of the teams from Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Cuba, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, and Canada, were already in Lima processing their entry. As of today, entourages from Brazil, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guyana, and Mexico will be arriving.

Peru will be represented by 139 Para athletes, the biggest amount for this type of continental competitions. In addition, we will participate in 16 disciplines, with sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball being the ones with the highest number of competitors, with 24 each (12 for the women’s team and the same amount for the men’s team).

Other disciplines in which we will participate are boccia (4 Para athletes), football 5-a-side (10), football 7-a-side (14), goalball (12), judo (1), Para athletics (14), Para badminton (10), Para cycling (2), Para swimming (4), Para powerlifting (4), Para taekwondo (4), Para table tennis (4), wheelchair tennis (5), and shooting Para sport (3).
