Getting a close look at the best athletes of the Americas and visiting the new sports venues are unforgettable experiences. This was stated by about 3000 children and senior citizens who already enjoyed the Pan American Games celebration. It was possible thanks to the free tickets gifted by the Organizing Committee as part of their initiative to bring Peruvians closer to sports.

This time, children from Asociación de Hipertrofia Muscular Duchenne and Albergue Manthoc in San Luis, as well as students from state schools in Callao, enjoyed cycling and men’s volleyball competitions at VIDENA and Callao Sports Center, respectively. The children, full of excitement, said they were happy to attend competitions they would normally watch only on TV.

Lima 2019 is currently coordinating with different non-profit associations, municipalities and ministries to give free tickets to vulnerable children and senior citizens so that they enjoy the most important multi-sports event in the Americas. In this way, we want everybody to join this sports celebration,” said Alberto Valenzuela, Lima 2019 Operations Manager.

Many institutions have benefited from the free tickets. Among them are Inabif, Aldeas Infantiles, Asociación “Arenas y Esteras”, Alto Colibrí, Casa Hogar “Un día de Esperanza”, “Yo soy sus ojos” Association of Athletes with Visual Impairment, the children’s shelter of Independencia’s police station and Asociación Nacional de Familiares Víctimas del Terrorismo, as well as social programs of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Municipality of Punta Hermosa, Municipality of Punta Negra and, thanks to the Ministry of Education, students from state schools.

Mariella Moreno, Physical Education regional expert of the Ministry of Education, pointed out that the institution enthusiastically welcomed the invitation from Lima 2019 and they organized themselves to attend the competitions. She also said that it is a big chance for students to enjoy and experience sports first-hand.

The VIDENA velodrome came alive with joy with the presence of dozens of children from different schools in San Luis and more than 100 senior citizens from the Senior Citizens Center of the Municipality of San Luis.

“This is amazing and beautiful. We never expected to be at these modern venues. So, we thank the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee for giving us the chance to see cycling competitions in person,” mentioned Josefina Matallana, member of the Senior Citizens Center.
