The Minister visited the Army Equestrian School of La Molina alongside Carlos Neuhaus, Lima 2019 President.
José Huerta Torres, Minister of Defense, toured the venues of the equestrian sports for the 2019 Pan American Games Lima, accompanied by Carlos Neuhaus, President of the Organizing Committee and César Astudillo Salcedo, Army Commander General, to learn about the work at the Army Equestrian School, in La Molina, which will welcome the best riders of the Americas.
The Minister along with Carlos Neuhaus and General Astudillo, toured the facilities of the venue. This site is currently undergoing some preparation works, such as enabling a 4-km equestrian track and additional projects, like closed channels, water mirrors and platforms.
“In accordance to President Martín Vizcarra’s Government policy, the Peruvian Army Forces must come forward to support the national development. In this sense, I have come to see the progress of the Army's engineering machinery,” he expressed.
The Comando de Apoyo al Desarrollo del Ejército - COADNE, (Army Development Support Command), headed by General Luis Gutiérrez, also present during the visit, has arranged the use of 28 heavy machines and vehicles, as well as a staff of 80 people. The works include the removal of 180 thousand cubic meters of earth and began on February 12 and will conclude on April 20.
This venue will host the dressage, jumping and eventing competitions. The latter includes the two previous tests and the cross-country race on the 4 km track.
Carlos Neuhaus, Lima 2019 president, thanked the support and endorsement of the Peruvian Army to carry out the works in different venues and their help to make the best games in the history of our continent. “The contribution of the Army is crucial; I want to thank your effort and collaboration,” stated Neuhaus.
Athletes’ Village and Villa María del Triunfo
The Minister of Defense also informed that the Army has already completed the site preparation works of the Athletes’ Village in Villa El Salvador, where the towers that will accommodate the athletes in 2019 are already being built, as well as the Sports Center of Villa María del Triunfo.
In the Athletes’ Village, the Army removed 350 thousand cubic meters of land, built the Flag Park and relocated a 300-m wall by deploying 35 units of machinery equipment and vehicles, and 150 military personnel.
In Villa María del Triunfo, the Army removed 250 thousand cubic meters of land using 35 units machinery equipment and vehicles, and 120 people.
