The seven towers of the Athletes’ Village, main housing venue for close to 10,000 athletes and technical officials during the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games, are currently under construction in Villa El Salvador.
The Village will have a total of 1096 apartments and consortium Besco-Besalco is in charge of the infrastructure projects (760 apartments of 70 m2 and 336 apartments of 75 m2, which will have greater accessibility). The seven towers will be one of the main legacies of the Lima 2019 Games. In general, the Athletes’ Village construction work progress is in its final stage; at over 70%.
The structure of the seven towers is already built and the finish materials are already being applied. They will be later implemented and equipped, in order to accommodate all athletes in July 2019.
In parallel, the works in the basement construction are still in progress. It will be used for storage and offices during the Games, and then it will become a parking lot. In addition, finishing works are being made in the Club House inside the Athletes’ Village.
The installation of electric service and the placement of collection centers are also in progress. Around the buildings, the land grading is being carried out for overlay (temporary buildings), which will serve to complement the services to be provided to the visitors.
Construction works are being developed according to the established schedule. This infrastructure project will be delivered by February 2019.
Accessible Residential Complex
The modern Athletes’ Village will leave an important legacy behind for the inhabitants of Villa El Salvador and the rest of the country, as they will have access to top-notch facilities with the best amenities. This will be the first accessible residential complex in the country.
There will be 336 apartments available at the Athletes’ Village for people with an impairment and for wheelchair users during the Parapan American Games. Due to accessibility needs of the Para athletes and technical officials visiting Peru in 2019,
spacious corridors and larger elevators for wheelchairs will be built.
Competitive and Transparent Construction
The Athletes’ Village was awarded through the “English Contract Model.” This is a new engineering and construction contract model (EPC) known as New Engineering Contract (NEC).
This type of contract prevents acts of corruption, as well as addenda or impasses that delay the construction of new infrastructure projects. All participating companies have the same chances of reaching the end of the tendering process.
Construction Work Progress
62% of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games sports infrastructure already exists and only requires remodeling that will be carried out throughout 2018.
To date, the five largest infrastructure projects for Lima 2019 have been awarded: Athletes’ Village, Villa María del Triunfo, Videna, Callao and Villa El Salvador Sports Center. Construction is underway and by March 2019, 95% of the work will be ready for the Lima 2019 Games.
