Lima 2019 is getting ready to welcome the continent’s best baseball players – considered one of the most profitable sports – during the XVIII edition of the Pan American Games.
Baseball is a team sport played between two teams of nine players each. The objective of the game is to hit a ball with a bat and run through the internal field (infield) to reach as many bases as possible, turn around the base from where he hit (home) and score the well-known “home run” or run, while defensive players look for the batted ball to eliminate the player who hit the ball or other runners, before they reach one of the bases first or score the run. The team that scores more runs after 9 episodes (innings) is the winner.
Peru’s baseball team will participate at the Lima 2019 Games and currently represents the country in major international continental and regional events. So far, our baseball team has won the 5th place at the 2013 Bolivarian Games and continues its training for the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games to be held in our country.
It is expected that all baseball delegations obtain important achievements in their path towards the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games maintaining their excellence, friendship and respect since they are part of the Olympic circuit.
Baseball is believed to have its roots in the early folk games of 15th century England. According to the records, the first modern baseball game was played in Beachville (Ontario) in 1838. In the history of the Pan Am Games, the men’s baseball event has been present since its 1st edition in 1951 in Buenos Aires (Argentina), while the women's baseball event debuted at Toronto 2015.
